Temporary Construction Equipment (Sidewalk Sheds, Fences, Scaffolding, etc.) No Longer Requires a Final Inspection

Project closeouts just became a little easier.

As of November 5, 2022, a Technical Report (TR1) - Final is no longer required for temporary construction equipment permits. Per a recent NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) Service Notice, this applies to sidewalk sheds, construction fences, supported scaffolds, and protection and mechanical means.

To sign off the permit and receive a Letter of Completion (LOC) for the above work types, anyone involved in the filing can submit a removal notification to the DOB.

How To Submit a Removal Notification

  • Log into DOB NOW at nyc.gov/dobnow.
  • Select "DOB NOW: Build"
  • Select "New Building / Alteration / No Work"
  • Select "+Notifications"
  • Select a work type and enter the Job Filing Number

Once the removal notification has been submitted, the permit status will be updated to Signed Off and the job status will be updated to LOC Issued.

Sidewalk Sheds at Major Buildings

Note: Sidewalk Sheds for major buildings can only be removed after a Sidewalk Shed Removal Request has been approved in DOB NOW: Build. A major building is defined as a building 10 or more stories or 125 feet or more in height, a building with a building footprint of 100,000 square feet or more regardless of height, or a building so designated by the commissioner due to unique hazards associated with the construction or demolition of the structure.

A Sidewalk Shed Removal Request must be submitted in DOB NOW: Build no more than two business days following the complete removal of the sidewalk shed.
