Believe It: Raul Mayta rolls it right down the middle for team I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter!
On the heels of our Corporate Bowling Showdown this summer, in which our RAND on the Roll team finished in an agonizingly close second place, RAND’s bowlers returned to the lanes at Frames in the Port Authority Bus Terminal this fall to go head to head in an (occasionally) friendly intramural competition marked by lots of fun, a little frustration, and plenty of good-natured trash talking.
Sporting our red-and-black RAND on the Roll bowling shirts, eight ready-to-rumble teams—including the aptly named I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gutter, MIZZFITS, and Spare Parts—battled neck-and-neck for five weeks for the top spot, which earned no prize money but something much more important: bragging rights.
Fully exercising those rights were the X-Men: Strykers, who staged an impressive come-from-behind victory to take first place against the formidable Easeturn Strikers. Congratulations, guys! Kudos for notable individual performances also go to Wheeler & Dealers team captain Michele Wheeler for the league’s high game (185), and RAND President and Old School team captain Stephen Varone, who led all bowlers with the highest average for the season with a 131. (Though in his other "real" bowling league Stephen "claims" a 207 average!)
A special thanks to Stephen—an avid bowler to say the least—who sponsored and organized the RAND league and kept detailed stats that would have made even the most numbers-obsessed sports fan proud.
