Ask Our Experts: Infrared Thermography

Often what you can’t see in building can be more telling than what you can see. That’s the idea behind infrared thermography, a diagnostic tool used to monitor building conditions that can’t be identified in a visual-only survey.

In RAND’s Ask Our Experts video series, RAND’s Construction Director and Certified Level III Thermographer John Monroe, RA, discusses how infrared thermography is used to detect such potential building problems as water infiltration under roofing membranes, heat loss from drafts and lack of insulation, and overheated electrical subpanels and mechanical units.
