The RAND foursome of Luke, Joanna, John, and Sara is all smiles at Skyline's 6th Annual Smile Train Golf Outing, which raised $40,000.
A round of golf typically takes four hours or more to play, and if you’re a beginner like me it can be an endlessly frustrating afternoon. That’s why having a fun group of people in your foursome is key to enjoying yourself on the links. Recently I had the good fortune of playing with my co-workers John Monroe, Joanna Kuther, and Luke Pantaleo, and even though we took a lot of swings we had even more laughs on a beautiful day at the Village Club of Sands Point along the shore of Long Island Sound.
The occasion was Skyline Restoration’s 6th Annual Golf Classic Benefitting Smile Train, a non-profit organization that provides free surgery to children who are born with cleft lips or palates. Smile Train performs more than 128,000 free cleft surgeries each year, and has helped children in 87 countries.
Our RAND team was made up of beginners (Joanna and me) and more seasoned players (John and Luke). Luckily for us first timers, the rules were “Best Ball” in which everyone in the foursome plays from the best shot of the group for each shot until one of us sinks the ball in the hole. So even when we duffed our shots, one of our fellow teammates came to the rescue. And I’m excited to say that on a few shots, Joanna and I, rookies though we are, were the ones who came through!
To wrap up the day, we gathered with our industry colleagues for a fabulous cocktail hour at the clubhouse, where we shared highlights and eagerly awaited the awards ceremony. I’m proud to report that our RAND foursome took home the trophy for the “Most Honest Players,” which is a nice way of saying that no cheater would have turned in our score! Of course, my coworkers and I believe this honor also describes RAND’s reputation in the industry!
Most importantly, this year’s Smile Train golf outing raised $40,000 for a great cause, and RAND was glad to participate once again. I’m looking forward to improving my swing and hitting some more “best balls” next year!
