What inspired you to become a mechanical engineer?
I've always been intrigued by how things work, but my drive to become a mechanical engineer solidified because of the potential to impact people’s lives through smarter, more efficient systems. At RAND, the opportunity to design lasting and impactful urban building infrastructure was particularly compelling.
What does achieving this professional license mean to you and your career?
Obtaining this license is a significant milestone in my career, especially at RAND. It’s not just about the title; it's about the increased responsibility and trust to lead major projects in energy efficiency and electrification. This achievement not only enhances my ability to contribute significantly to RAND’s mission and future growth, but it also elevates the level of expertise and innovative solutions I can provide to our clients. As a licensed professional, I'm equipped to make sure that our clients receive the most advanced, efficient, and sustainable engineering solutions, directly impacting their operations and sustainability goals.
Can you describe your experience with the professional licensure process and the support you received during this journey?
Our company provided substantial support during my licensure process. They reimbursed not only the fees for my exams but also for preparatory courses and materials. Additionally, I had access to a wealth of resources and mentorship from experienced engineers who had successfully navigated the licensure path themselves. This level of support was pivotal in making my preparation thorough and ultimately successful.
What excites you about the future of mechanical engineering and your role in it with RAND?
I'm particularly excited about the ongoing advancements in electrification and sustainable energy solutions, fields where RAND is actively expanding. With our upcoming projects focused on energy-efficient compliance and innovative building system designs, I'm eager to play a key role in leading initiatives that align with New York City’s green objectives. It’s an exciting time to be at the forefront of shaping the future of our urban landscape.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in mechanical engineering, especially in a city like NYC?
New York City is a hub of innovation and challenge, and at RAND, we're at the heart of it. My advice for newcomers is to embrace every learning opportunity, especially in sustainability and energy efficiency, which are key focuses for us. Network extensively, attend industry talks, and get involved in a variety of projects. The diverse work we do at RAND will rapidly elevate your skills.
