Special Inspections
RAND is a registered Special Inspections Agency with the New York City Department of Buildings, qualified to perform Class 2 Special Inspections. Special Inspections are required for many construction, repair, and restoration scopes, and must be documented at defined milestones.
We support project teams by confirming required inspections from the approved drawings and filing requirements, coordinating inspection timing with the construction sequence, and providing field documentation for closeout.
Our Special Inspections services commonly cover:
- Structural and structural stabilization
- Building envelope and exterior elements
- Fire and life safety assemblies
- Site and construction operations affecting adjacent structures
Progress Inspections (Energy Code)
Special Inspections verify specific regulated work items for Building Code compliance. Progress Inspections document energy-code-related items at required milestones. Depending on scope and filing, a project may require one or both.
RAND also performs Energy Code Compliance Progress Inspections. These can include building envelope items (air barriers, insulation, fenestration), lighting/controls, HVAC and service water heating equipment and controls, duct leakage testing, and other energy-code-required documentation.
For more information, see our Special Inspections Fact Sheet.
Related Compliance Services: Tenant Protection Plans (TPP)
As a Registered Design Professional firm and NYC Special Inspections Agency, RAND provides Tenant Protection Plan (TPP) preparation, filing support, and TPP Special Inspections when required.
We help property owners and project teams navigate TPP requirements and coordinate the documentation and site inspections needed to support compliance during occupied construction and renovation work, with a focus on tenant safety and minimizing disruption.
