RAND Receives NYARM's Environmental Stewardship Award

New York, January 28, 2012

In recognition of its role in helping buildings improve their energy efficiency and become more environmentally friendly, RAND Engineering & Architecture, PC was awarded the New York Association of Realty Managers’ Environmental Stewardship Award at NYARM’s 54th annual awards dinner.

RAND’s main services of keeping buildings well maintained and watertight and ensuring their mechanical systems function properly has always been the foundation of its green mission. As New York City has passed recent legislation mandating energy-efficient measures for buildings, RAND has expanded its green services, which now include benchmarking, energy audits, retro-commissioning, green roofing systems, electrical metering and submetering, oil-to-gas conversions, combined heat and power cogeneration systems, boiler plant automation, lighting controls, and green interior design.

LEED, BPI Green Team

As a partner in NYSERDA's Multifamily Performance Program, RAND performs energy audits and administers energy-savings projects from application through completion. RAND’s specially assembled Green Team is staffed with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professionals and Green Associates and BPI (Building Performance Institute) Certified Professionals. As part of its role, the team evaluates the growing number of materials, methods, and technologies for sustainable design and development. Based on the team's findings, RAND specifies recycled replacement products and materials low in toxicity in construction documents wherever possible. In addition, on the majority of renovation projects that RAND administers, at least 50% of the construction debris must be recycled.

"Being green is integral to who we are as a firm and what we do day in and day out—from the smallest project to the largest," said RAND's President Stephen Varone, AIA. "We're honored our industry peers have recognized RAND's role in making buildings more energy efficient as well as healthier and safer places to live and work."

Cora D. Austin of Lindsey Park Housing Corp. and Isabelle B. Silverman, Esq. of the Environmental Defense Fund also received Environmental Stewardship awards from NYARM.
