At RAND we’ve built our reputation by treating clients and employees fairly, honestly, and professionally, and by performing our work with merit and distinction. As a result, we have attracted a diverse group of professionals with an abiding interest and expertise in their fields.

Our approach has brought us not only the rewards of work well done, but also industry recognition: RAND has been named one of the Best Places to Work in New York City by Crain's Business five times, as well as one of Inc.'s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the country (also five times). While our goal is to continue to grow both as a company and as individuals, we are committed to keeping RAND a place where employees care about what they do and how they do it—in short, a firm they feel proud to work for.

To help keep our employees healthy, happy, and productive, RAND offers an inclusive benefits package that features the following:

Comprehensive Health Insurance

RAND provides extensive health insurance options that include medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as long-term disability and life insurance.

Retirement Plan

To help employees save for retirement, RAND sponsors a 401(k) plan with a company contribution.

Health and Fitness

Our employees’ quality of life is a priority for RAND, and we’ve fitted our office to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Our in-house exercise room is equipped with weights, treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical trainers, and a rowing machine. In addition to on-site yoga, RAND provides kickboxing classes and circuit training with instructors, as well as nutritional counseling. Our latest addition to promoting employee fitness is the Jawbone UP band, which enables employees to track their daily steps, exercise activities, sleep, and food intake.

Fun and Recreation

All work and no play is not the RAND way. To foster camaraderie and enjoy each other’s company outside of a formal work setting, RAND sponsors a variety of gatherings, events, and celebrations. Our annual summer and holiday parties have featured a day at the beach, a weekend at a country estate, a cruise aboard a yacht, plays, dinners, and a Cirque du Soleil performance, to name just a few. Our intramural RAND on the Roll bowling league brings out the (sometimes friendly) competition between us, as does our J. P. Morgan Corporate Challenge fun run in Central Park.

Other company sponsored activities include movie nights and lunchtime documentaries, Mets and Nets games (Yankees and Knicks fans also welcomed), a book club, an annual ski trip, Bring Your Dog to Work Day, and of course, informal happy hours. And many of our staff enjoy a break in our recreation room (the walls of which are adorned with our travel souvenirs) to play pool, darts, and board games.

Professional Development

RAND offers regular in-house professional education and training programs that give our staff the opportunity to expand their industry knowledge and skills and for our professional engineers and registered architects to earn continuing education credits toward professional license renewals. In addition, for long-term employees pursuing professional licensure, RAND offers examination preparation and payment toward licensing fees (on a case-by-case basis).

RAND technical staff members also attend courses on scaffold safety training as well as for other certification programs, such as infrared thermography, Special Inspections, and asbestos investigation. In addition, RAND employees host staff and industry seminars on topics ranging from ways to improve workflow to writing better site visit reports to primers on industry topics such as energy efficiency and New York City’s Facade Inspection and Safety Program.

RAND Gives Back

Through our RAND Gives Back program, RAND supports people and organizations in the communities where we live and work through a variety of volunteer efforts and charitable giving. The program offers employees the opportunity to donate their time and talents in ways meaningful to them. Some recent projects and programs that RAND has supported and participated in include a Red Cross blood drive, mentoring underprivileged kids, Ronald McDonald House fundraisers, CANstruction design competition, and a clothing drive, in addition to many other worthy events and causes.

RAND off the Clock

RAND employees pursue a variety of hobbies and passions in their spare time, which is one of the things that make RAND a fun and interesting place to work. Our staff members helped out in Super Storm Sandy relief efforts, rappelled down a building for charity, coordinated art classes for handicapped kids, walked dogs at an animal shelter, ran in a Spartan Race, and even earned a pilot’s license.

A Special Place to Work

At RAND we foster a spirit of respect, support, and unity among our staff. By recognizing each person for their individual talents and contributions, we have cultivated a workplace where employees develop fulfilling careers at RAND, which has been a key to our success as a company. By bringing out the best in each other, we are inspired to give our best to our clients. It’s an approach that makes RAND the firm that it is and that it will continue to be.
