RAND Ranks No. 12 on Crain’s Best Places to Work in NYC List

RAND Engineering & Architecture, DPC ranked No. 12 on Crain’s New York Business’s 2026 Best Places to Work in NYC, marking the firm’s 15th time on the list. Members of our team celebrated at the September 24 awards luncheon at the New York Marriott Marquis.
The milestone comes as RAND approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027. Since our founding in New York in 1987, we have grown into a multidisciplinary firm of approximately 120 employees. Creating a workplace where people can learn, contribute, and build their careers remains an important part of that growth.
“People invest a great deal of their lives in their careers,” said RAND President Stephen Varone. “We want that time at RAND to be well spent, with work they’re proud of, opportunities to keep learning, and colleagues they enjoy working with. Being recognized for the 15th time means a lot to us, and we want to keep earning that recognition.”
Building a Career at RAND
At RAND, our technical, administrative, and support teams work together to deliver investigations, repair programs, and building upgrades. Our expertise spans building envelope, structural engineering, MEP and energy, forensic investigation, architectural design, and code and zoning. Working across these disciplines gives colleagues opportunities to share knowledge, build on their experience, and take on greater responsibility as they help clients solve complex building challenges and plan for their properties’ long-term needs.
This year, we recognized three colleagues whose careers have grown with the firm by naming them Associate Principals: Peter Scallion, Joanna Kuther, and Jason Damiano, PE. Their appointments recognize 15 to nearly 25 years of contributions across business development, operations, community involvement, and structural engineering. Read more about their appointments.
As a 100% employee-owned firm through our Equity Stock Purchase Plan, RAND gives our people a stake in the company’s future and the workplace we continue to build together.
Connecting with Colleagues and Community
The relationships we build with one another are an important part of why we enjoy working here. Our Spring Social, happy hours, and Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations give colleagues time to connect. Wellness activities, including yoga, Pilates, and sound baths, offer a chance to pause during a busy week.

Through RAND Gives Back, employees take part in volunteer activities throughout the year, including projects with Volunteer New York!, 9/11 Day service events, wrapping presents for our Winter Wishes program, our mentoring program for aspiring teens studying architecture and engineering, and packing backpacks for children served by New Alternatives for Children. These activities bring colleagues from across the firm together to support our community.
Thank you to everyone at RAND for the expertise you share, the care you bring to our clients, and the part you play in helping colleagues build their careers here.
