Although many Boards engage engineering/architectural firms to provide consulting services on almost all major capital improvement projects, there are still some common misconceptions in the industry regarding the engineer’s/architect’s role in the process. Here are four of the more common of these misconceptions.

Misconception #1: There is only one right way to repair your building.

The engineer/architect visits the site typically only four to 12 hours a week, so it should not be considered a full-time supervisory role.
Misconception #2: The engineer/architect hires the construction crews.
Misconception #3: The engineer/architect supervises the contractor’s work.
Misconception #4: The engineer’s/architect’s sign-off relieves the contractor of responsibility.
