DRONES TAKE FLIGHT
Drones can provide a safe, fast, cost-effective, and less intrusive way to perform close-up visual evaluations of buildings than traditional inspection methods, such as motorized scaffolding, pipe scaffolding, and boom lifts. Drones are also useful where it may be cost-prohibitive, unsafe, or impractical to use other methods for building inspections because of the shape and location of the structure and/or its condition.

Because no equipment other than a drone is required, RAND’s Drone Team can easily set up and operate efficiently and more cost-effectively than via traditional visual inspection methods, with no additional contractor fees involved. Drones can also much more quickly cover very tall buildings and large site areas.

DRONE USE IN MANHATTAN
Drone operation is currently allowed in New York City as of July 2023.
While drones can greatly enhance visual inspections, they are not a substitute for hands-on inspections, particularly those mandated by New York City’s Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP), which requires cyclical hands-on inspections of buildings taller than six stories along every 60 feet of street- and public-facing facades.
