In 2012, the New York City Department of Buildings implemented stricter requirements for Special Inspections to ensure that contractors perform construction work properly and that completed projects adhere to building code. Most repair and upgrade projects require Special Inspections, which must be performed by a Special Inspection Agency registered with the DOB.
In RAND’s Ask Our Experts video series, RAND Structural Engineer Eugene Gurevich, PE discusses Special Inspections—the types of inspections, what they entail, and how they enhance construction quality and public safety.
