October 30, 1987
- Stephen Varone, AIA and two other partners found RAND Engineering, PC.
1988
- Senior Structural Engineer and Future Partner and Construction Phase Director Michael Larkin, PE officially joins RAND.
- Future Partner and Chief Administration Officer Christopher Walsh officially joins RAND as an administrative assistant.
- Full-time staff grows to 8 employees.
1992
- Future Principal, Vice-President, and MEP Team Leader Peter Varsalona, PE joins RAND as a summer intern from Columbia University.
- Future Partner and Facade & Roofing Team Leader Steven Tingir joins RAND.
1998
- MEP Team is established.
- Facade and Roofing Team is established.
- Architectural Team is established.
- Expediting/Code & Zoning Team is established.
1999
- RAND expands to an entire floor and doubles its office space from 3,750 sf to 7,500 sf.
2001
- Peter Varsalona, PE is named Principal and Vice President of RAND.
- Structural Team is established.
2004
- To reflect its expansion of architectural services portfolio, RAND Engineering, PC changes its name to RAND Engineering & Architecture, PC.
- RAND Gives Back, RAND's company-sponsored volunteer and charitable initiative, is established. As part of the program, RAND strives to contribute at least 1% of the firm’s gross billing through volunteering and charitable giving.
2007
- Inc. 5000 names RAND to its first ever Inc. 5000 List of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America.
- ZweigWhite awards RAND an honorable mention on its 2007 list of Best Architectural Firms to Work For.
- Zweig Letter Names RAND to its Hot Firm 2007 List of fastest growing architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firms in the United States and Canada.
2008
- RAND's "Been there. Fixed that." cartoon-theme advertising campaign wins first prize at the 31st Annual Marketing Communications Awards.
- Inc. 5000 names RAND to its List of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in America for the second time.
- New York Construction names RAND to its list of Top Design Firms.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND to its first ever Best Place To Work in NYC list.
2009
- Zweig Letter names RAND to its Hot Firm 2009 list of fastest-growing architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firms in the United States and Canada.
- Inc. 5000 names RAND to its List of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America for the third time.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the second year in a row.
2010
- Forensics Team is established.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the third year in a row.
2011
- Fantastic Fourth: Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the fourth year in a row.
2012
- New York Association of Realty Managers awards RAND its Environmental Stewardship Award.
- RAND expands its staff to its current 90 full-time employees.
2013
- RAND changes its corporate designation from PC to DPC to allow licensed and non-licensed staff alike to purchase shares in the company.
- Inc. 5000 names RAND to its List of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America for the fourth time.
- Historic Preservation Group is established.
2014
- Michael Larkin, PE, Steven Tingir, and Christopher Walsh are made partners.
- Inc. 5000 names RAND to its List of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America for a fifth time.
- RAND's Canstruction sculpture "Hounding Hunger" built with 2,568 food cans, wins the “Best Meal” award at 22nd annual Canstruction New York competition. As a part of the competition, all cans are donated to City Harvest.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the fifth time.
- RAND expands its office space from 15,000 sf on two floors to 22,500 sf on three floors.
2015
- RAND's historic restoration project at 901 Broadway, a cast-iron building built in 1870 originally home to Lord & Taylor, wins the New York Landmarks Conservancy's Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award.
- Special Inspections Program is established.
- Rope Access Team is established.
- RAND's Equity Employee Stock Purchase Plan is established. 29 employees become official owners of RAND, and approximately $150,000 in capital is raised with the initial stock offering. RAND’s capitalization grows 480% since 2003, giving it an estimated valuation of approximately $6 million.
- Super Six: Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the sixth time.
- RAND's Canstruction sculpture "Pipe Down Hunger," built with 6,114 food cans, wins the “Best Meal” award at the 23rd annual Canstruction New York competition. As a part of the competition, all cans were donated to City Harvest.
2016
- RAND welcomes eight new shareholders, bringing the total to 37 official employee owners of RAND under RAND's Equity Stock Purchase Plan.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC by Crain's for the 6th time.
2017
- RAND celebrates its 30th anniversary.
- RAND's historic facade restoration project at the Ziehl/Starr Residence, a neo-Grec brownstone built in 1878, wins the New York Landmarks Conservancy's Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award.
- Engineering News Record (ENR) New York names RAND to its 2017 Top Design Firms list.
- Lucky Number Seven: Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC by Crain's for the 7th time. RAND is the only engineering and architecture firm to make the list.
- RAND's number of shareholders increases to 42 official employee owners of RAND under RAND's Equity Stock Purchase Plan.
- RAND’s roof replacement and exterior restoration program of 153 Lincoln Place is awarded the Park Slope Civic Council 2017 Evelyn and Everett Ortner Preservation Award for excellence in exterior restoration.
2018
- RAND’s exterior and roof repair program of Park Slope Jewish Center is awarded the Park Slope Civic Council 2018 Evelyn and Everett Ortner Preservation Award.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the 8th time.
- Engineering News Record (ENR) New York names RAND to its 2018 Top Design Firms list.
- RAND's Canstruction sculpture "Time’s Up for Hunger", built with 3,217 food cans, wins the “Best Original Design” award at the 26th annual Canstruction New York competition.
2019
- Drone Team is established.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the 9th time.
- Engineering News Record (ENR) New York names RAND to its 2019 Top Design Firms list.
- RAND's Canstruction sculpture "Don’t Let Hunger DRAG ON", built with 6,760 food cans, wins the “Best Meal” award at the 27th annual Canstruction New York competition and also places 4th for “Best Meal” in the 2019 International Canstruction Competition.
2020
- As New York shuts down during the COVID-19 New York State Emergency, RAND continues operations as a New York City essential business to protect the health and safety of building occupants. Despite the financial impact of the pandemic, no RAND employees are laid off.
- RAND expands its office space from 22,500 sf on three floors to 30,000 sf on four floors.
- RAND Project Manager Training Program is established.
2021
- 3D Laser Scanning/BIM services are offered by the firm for the first time.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the 10th time.
- RAND Professional Development Program is established.
- RAND's number of shareholders increases to 50 official employee owners of RAND under RAND's Equity Stock Purchase Plan. RAND’s estimated valuation approaches $10 million.
2022
- RAND celebrates its 35th anniversary.
- RAND Leadership & Investment Group is established.
- Crain's New York Business names RAND a Best Place To Work in NYC for the 11th time.
- RAND Principal, Vice-President and MEP Team Leader Peter Varsalona, PE celebrates 30 years at RAND.
- RAND Partner Steven “Zob” Tingir celebrates 30 years at RAND.
- RAND Gives Back reaches $900,000 in charitable contributions since it was established in 2004.
